New patients

Your first visit

Your first exam takes about 30 to 40 minutes. We ask about your health and any symptoms, check your vision and prescription, measure eye pressure, take retinal images and look at the health of each eye. Then your optometrist explains what they found and what, if anything, to do next.

Insurance and billing. We direct bill most vision and extended health plans. Children's exams may be partly covered by public health plans, so ask when you book.

FAQ

Common questions

How often should I have an eye exam?

Most adults every one to two years, and children every year. Your optometrist may suggest more often if you have diabetes, glaucoma in the family or a changing prescription.

Do you bill my vision plan directly?

Yes, we direct bill most vision and extended health plans. Bring your plan details and we will check your coverage before your exam.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Sometimes. If your optometrist recommends drops, your vision may be blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours, so bring sunglasses and plan not to drive.

Can I bring in a prescription from another clinic?

Yes. Our optician can fill a current prescription from anywhere, and we can request your past records with your permission.

What if something gets in my eye?

Call us as early as you can and we will try to see you the same day. For a chemical splash, rinse with clean water for 15 minutes and go to the nearest emergency room.

How long do new glasses take?

Most single-vision glasses are ready in 5 to 7 business days. Progressive and specialty lenses take 7 to 10.
